Why is language important? Language is what makes us human. It is how people communicate. By learning a language, it means that you have mastered a complex system of words, structures and grammar in order to communicate effectively with others. For most people, language comes naturally. We learn how to communicate even before we can speak and as we grow up we find ways to manipulate language to really convey what we want to say in complex words and sentences. 1- Language is important for culture and society Language helps us express our feelings and thoughts — this is unique to our species because it is a way to express unique ideas and customs within different cultures and societies. 2-Language is important for personal communication Although most human communication is non-verbal (we can show our thoughts, feelings and ideas with gestures, expressions, tone and emotions) language is important for personal communication.
